Alexandra was born March 16, 1986, in the lovely city of New York, New York (we knew there was a reason why we liked her so much!). As a child, she was bitten by the acting bug after a combination of acting lessons and exposure to Broadway shows ("I think I saw 'Les Miserables' on Broadway like 12 times," she told ) convinced her that the stage and screen held the path for her. She got her big break at the tender age of sixteen, landing the role of tortured teen Laurie Lewis on "All My Children." After forty-three episodes of the celebrated soap opera, it was on to bigger things: "The Squid and the Whale," "Law and Order," and, oh, a little movie series you may have heard of called "Percy Jackson & the Olympians."
For those not in the know: "Percy Jackson" is a book series turned movie series (it's spawned two movies so far) that's something along the lines of Harry Potter but with Greek gods taking the place of wizardry and witchcraft. Daddario plays Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena, who meets up with the titular Percy Jackson at a camp for demigods, and, you know, has a bunch of adventures with Percy and his best friend Grover. Now, we're not saying that this makes Alexandra Daddario the poor man's Emma Watson, but we are saying that, like Ms. Watson before her, she's the star of a beloved series of supernatural coming of age flicks--and, like Ms. Watson before her, we were all pretty eager to see her get undressed.
But unlike Emma Watson, whose only reveals have been accidental, Alexandra Daddario has happily given her fans the one thing they want the most, shedding her clothes and providing us all with one of the best nude scenes of the year. If the shift from "Percy Jackson" star to totally naked "True Detective" siren seems abrupt, you'd do well to dig through the rest of Daddario's filmography. While "True Detective" marked her first nude scene, it was hardly her first shot at sexy: prior to the HBO show, she'd had many an alluring onscreen appearance, including "Bereavement," "The Attic," and "Texas Chainsaw 3D" (because you can't have a horror movie without girls running around in their underwear).
But even with all the buildup, Alexandra still found her first for real nude scene to be a bit of a challenge. As she told :
I think one thing about this role for me was that it was a huge challenge for me, and I saw it as a good challenge. I saw it as an interesting challenge...I really wanted to be part of the show, and I understood why the nudity and all of that was required of the character.... The character is really different from anything that I've done before. The nudity was just part of that.
And luckily costar Woody Harrelson was there to help her through it: "Woody has done so many different things. He made the whole situation very comfortable. It wasn't anything awkward in that sense. I tried not to think about it too much before shooting the more intimate scenes and just sort of did it. [Harrelson] has been there done that. He's Woody Harrelson. If there's anybody that I was going to be comfortable with, it's somebody like him." (Seriously, someone remind us to send Harrelson a box of chocolates or flowers or something.)
Wondering how she'll be following this onscreen success? Though her name was batted about as a contender for the role of Anastasia Steele in the "50 Shades" movie, we're sad to say that Daddario won't be taking up residence in the Red Room of Pain anytime soon. But you can catch her in zombie love triangle flick "," which we can only hope will include some sort of hot zombie threesome (or at least another glimpse at Daddario's glorious form). And hey, if it doesn't, we also hear she's been cast in "Unreachable by Conventional Means" and "San Andreas"--surely one of those directors understands the importance of showcasing Daddario's physical talents alongside her acting ones, right? Well, hope springs eternal, anyway.
